The market

Supplying protective clothing to Tanzania

Tanzania's protective clothing demand is mining-led. The gold belt around Geita, Mwanza and the Lake Victoria region supports large workforces in abrasion-heavy conditions, and the cement, construction and energy sectors add steady volume on top. Dar es Salaam is also a transit corridor port, feeding Zambia, Malawi, Burundi and the DRC copper belt, so a Tanzanian distributor reaches well beyond the domestic market. Sanctum Work Wear manufactures in Mumbai and ships to Dar es Salaam.

Mining is the useful entry point here. It buys cotton coveralls, steel toe footwear, helmets, gloves and eye protection in consistent volume rather than in project spikes, and mine procurement teams reorder to a schedule. That predictability suits a manufacturing relationship better than one-off construction tenders, and it is where we would focus a first Tanzanian push.

Compliance

Importing PPE into Tanzania

Import registration is completed by your Tanzania-registered consignee. We supply the manufacturer-side documentation that registration depends on.

Conformity scheme
PVoC, the Pre-Export Verification of Conformity programme administered by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards. A Certificate of Conformity is issued in the country of export before shipment.
Critical sequence
As in Kenya, verification is a pre-shipment requirement. Consignments arriving without a Certificate of Conformity face penalties and destination inspection.
Standards
Tanzania Standards published by TBS apply, with the end client naming the applicable specification in a tender.
Customs
Entry is processed by the Tanzania Revenue Authority against the standard import documentation set.
Documents we issue
Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, ISO 9001:2015 certificate, EN ISO 11612 and EN ISO 11611 fabric certificates, and mill test reports for the supplied lot.

Certification

Quality system
ISO 9001:2015, covering the Mumbai manufacturing operation.
Flame retardant fabric
Our flame retardant garments are made from fabrics certified to EN ISO 11612 (clothing to protect against heat and flame) and EN ISO 11611 (clothing for welding and allied processes). Certification is held at fabric level. Fabric certificates and mill test reports for the lot used on your order are supplied with the consignment.
Certificates on request
Copies of the ISO 9001:2015 certificate and the applicable fabric certificates are issued with quotations and accompany every consignment.
Matching certification to your tender: flame retardant requirements are written differently by every client, and the fabric construction that satisfies one specification will not always satisfy another. Send us the relevant clause from your tender or HSE standard with your enquiry and we will confirm in writing which of our certified fabrics can be supplied against it, and exactly which certificates and test reports will accompany the goods.

Questions

Tanzania workwear supply: common questions

Do you supply mining companies and their contractors in Tanzania?

Yes, and mining is where we would concentrate a first Tanzanian effort. Mine procurement buys cotton coveralls, steel toe footwear, helmets, gloves and eye protection on a reorder schedule rather than in project spikes, which suits a manufacturing relationship. Tell us the site headcount and size spread and we will quote against the actual requirement.

What is PVoC and does it apply to workwear entering Tanzania?

PVoC is the Pre-Export Verification of Conformity programme run by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards, and a Certificate of Conformity must be issued in India before the goods ship. It cannot be arranged retrospectively, and cargo arriving without it faces penalties and destination inspection costs. We build the verification into the despatch schedule rather than treating it as an afterthought.

Can a Tanzanian distributor supply neighbouring countries from stock?

Yes. Dar es Salaam is a corridor port feeding Zambia, Malawi, Burundi and the DRC copper belt, so a distributor holding stock in Tanzania reaches a considerably larger market than the domestic economy alone. We can structure pricing and packing for stock-and-release supply where that fits your model.

How long is shipping from Mumbai to Dar es Salaam?

Sea freight from Nhava Sheva to Dar es Salaam typically runs thirteen to seventeen days in transit. Production time sits ahead of that and depends on quantity, fabric and customisation. Air freight is available into Dar es Salaam for size sets and urgent mine-site replenishment.

Do you supply flame retardant clothing as well as standard mining workwear?

Yes. Our FR garments are made from fabrics certified to EN ISO 11612 and EN ISO 11611, with fabric certificates and mill test reports supplied with the consignment. Most Tanzanian mining demand is for standard cotton coveralls rather than FR, but gas processing and pipeline work does specify it, so tell us which duty the garments are for.
